Alleinerziehende im Gender-Diskurs: Unterschiede oder Gemeinsamkeiten bei Müttern und Vätern?

'Gendersensible empirische Analysen nehmen sowohl Frauen, als auch Männer in ihren jeweils eigenen ökonomischen, sozialen und familialen Bezügen in den Blick. Sie bieten für die Familienforschung weiterführende Inspirationen, indem sie 'genderblindness' entgegenwirken. Vorliegender Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit geschlechterspezifischen Divergenzen und Konvergenzen bei allein erziehenden Müttern und Vätern im Kontext der Entwicklung familialer Lebensformen und kompatibler theoretischer Ansätze. Als Analysekriterien werden vier Dimensionen herangezogen, welche es erlauben, signifikante Annahmen zu Unterschieden und Gemeinsamkeiten hinsichtlich des sozialen Geschlechtes zu formulieren. Es sind dies die Kriterien der Elternzeit, des Sozialhilfebezugs und der Arbeitslosigkeit sowie das Merkmal der personal-familialen Stärken, bezogen auf ausgewählte Kompetenzen für den beruflichen Alltag. Ausgehend von den empirischen Ergebnissen verdichten sich zwei Entwicklungslinien: Zum einen kann angenommen werden, dass allein erziehende Frauen nach wie vor von besonderen sozialen und finanziellen Risiken betroffen sind und spezifischer Unterstützungsformen bedürfen. Zum anderen ist zu vermuten, dass sich bei der Selbsteinschätzung der persönlichen Qualifikationen allein erziehender Väter und Mütter für den beruflichen Alltag eine Annäherung in den Geschlechterrollen abzeichnen könnte.' Computer in der Familie - Umgang und Auswirkungen

Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt die Ergebnisse von zehn qualitativen Interviews vor, die im Vorfeld des Projektes "Computer in der familialen Alltagswelt" durchgeführt wurden, und liefert relevante Informationen zu familialen Gestaltungsmustern der Computer-Nutzung. Der Fokus der Befragung lag dabei auf dem Umgang der Kinder mit Medien-PC (Spiele) und Internet. Hinsichtlich des Nutzungsumfangs von Internet und vor allem des PC bestehen erhebliche Unterschiede zwischen den Familien. Zum einen differiert der Umfang der Nutzung durch die Kinder, zum anderen deren Bewertung durch die Eltern. Die Spannweite der Zeit, die die befragten Kinder pro Woche am PC verbringen, reicht dabei von einer bis weit über zehn Stunden. Vor allem mit PC-Spielen wird viel Zeit verbracht, was nicht selten zu Auseinandersetzungen in den Familien führt. Das Internet wird weniger intensiv von den Kindern genutzt und dient in erster Linie zur Informationsrecherche. Dieser Bereich ist kaum konfliktbeladen, aber er erfordert eine relativ aufwändige Begleitung durch die Eltern. Fachwissen und Selbstsicherheit im Umgang mit den neuen Medien sind sehr stark geschlechtsspezifisch verteilt: Väter gehen am sichersten mit diesen Medien um, gefolgt von den Söhnen. Dagegen erreichen Mütter und Töchter nicht dieselbe Vertrautheit. Insgesamt sind aber die befragten Kinder mit dem PC und insbesondere dem Internet gut vertraut - dies gilt vor allem in Anbetracht ihres Alters. Eltern mit hohem Bildungsniveau zeigen sich eher kritisch im Hinblick auf die PC-Nutzung ihrer Kinder. Zugleich teilen sich Vater und Mutter die Medienerziehung gleichberechtigt. In den Familien mit niedrigerem sozialem Status kommt dagegen die Erziehungsaufgabe primär der Mutter zu, während das Fachwissen in den meisten Fällen der Vater besitzt. Intravital imaging reveals angiotensin II–induced transcytosis of albumin by podocytes

Albuminuria is a hallmark of kidney disease of various etiologies and usually caused by deterioration of glomerular filtration barrier integrity. We recently showed that angiotensin II (Ang II) acutely increases albumin filtration in the healthy kidney. Here, we used intravital microscopy to assess the effects of Ang II on podocyte function in rats. Acute infusion of 30, 60, or 80 ng/kg per minute Ang II enhanced the endocytosis of albumin by activation of the type 1 Ang II receptor and resulted in an average (±SEM) of 3.7±2.2, 72.3±18.6 (Pµm³ (P<0.001) albumin-containing vesicles per glomerulus, respectively, compared with none at baseline or 10 ng/kg per minute Ang II. Immunostaining of Ang II–infused kidneys confirmed the presence of albumin-containing vesicles, which colocalized with megalin, in podocin-positive cells. Furthermore, podocyte endocytosis of albumin was markedly reduced in the presence of gentamicin, a competitive inhibitor of megalin-dependent endocytosis. Ang II infusion increased the concentration of albumin in the subpodocyte space, a potential source for endocytic protein uptake, and gentamicin further increased this concentration. Some endocytic vesicles were acidified and colocalized with LysoTracker. Most vesicles migrated from the capillary to the apical aspect of the podocyte and were eventually released into the urinary space. This transcytosis accounted for approximately 10% of total albumin filtration. In summary, the transcellular transport of proteins across the podocyte constitutes a new pathway of glomerular protein filtration. Ang II enhances the endocytosis and transcytosis of plasma albumin by podocytes, which may eventually impair podocyte function

Effects of capture on the behavior and breeding success of urban and forest Great Tits

Behavioral research often involves capturing and video-recording birds, but these procedures may have undesired effects on the behavior of birds that have rarely been quantified. In addition, birds in urban and more natural areas may differ in their sensitivity to disturbance. We examined the possible effects of both capturing, weighing and measuring, and taking a blood sample, and the presence of video-cameras on the behavior of male and female Great Tits (Parus major) breeding in urban and forest habitats. Using a 2 × 2 block design, we compared the behavior and breeding success of parents that either were or were not captured on their nests a few days before behavioral observations, and of parents that either were or were not habituated to the presence of a concealed video-recorder mounted on nest boxes. We found no significant effects of habituation to the camera on bird behavior, but males captured in their nest boxes were more vigilant and hesitated longer before entering nest boxes, and also had slightly lower provisioning rates than males that had not been captured. Captured females also tended to be more vigilant than females that had not been captured, but their provisioning rates were not affected. Capturing males also influenced the behavior of their non-captured mates, but capturing females had no effect on the behavior of their non-captured mates. We found no difference in the effects of capture on Great Tits in urban and forest habitats, and our treatments also had no effect on the mass, size, and survival of nestlings until fledging. Our results suggest that, for Great Tits, being captured results in sex-dependent behavioral effects that can last for at least several days. As such, we suggest that the possibility of similar effects in other species of birds should be considered in behavioral studies where birds must be captured, and recommend either that behavioral data be collected before capturing birds or that all birds in a study should be captured and handled in a standardized way

Gα_i Proteins are Indispensable for Hearing

Background/Aims: From invertebrates to mammals, Gαi proteins act together with their common binding partner Gpsm2 to govern cell polarization and planar organization in virtually any polarized cell. Recently, we demonstrated that Gαi3-deficiency in pre-hearing murine cochleae pointed to a role of Gαi3 for asymmetric migration of the kinocilium as well as the orientation and shape of the stereociliary (“hair”) bundle, a requirement for the progression of mature hearing. We found that the lack of Gαi3 impairs stereociliary elongation and hair bundle shape in high-frequency cochlear regions, linked to elevated hearing thresholds for high-frequency sound. How these morphological defects translate into hearing phenotypes is not clear. Methods: Here, we studied global and conditional Gnai3 and Gnai2 mouse mutants deficient for either one or both Gαi proteins. Comparative analyses of global versus Foxg1-driven conditional mutants that mainly delete in the inner ear and telencephalon in combination with functional tests were applied to dissect essential and redundant functions of different Gαi isoforms and to assign specific defects to outer or inner hair cells, the auditory nerve, satellite cells or central auditory neurons. Results: Here we report that lack of Gαi3 but not of the ubiquitously expressed Gαi2 elevates hearing threshold, accompanied by impaired hair bundle elongation and shape in high-frequency cochlear regions. During the crucial reprogramming of the immature inner hair cell (IHC) synapse into a functional sensory synapse of the mature IHC deficiency for Gαi2 or Gαi3 had no impact. In contrast, double-deficiency for Gαi2 and Gαi3 isoforms results in abnormalities along the entire tonotopic axis including profound deafness associated with stereocilia defects. In these mice, postnatal IHC synapse maturation is also impaired. In addition, the analysis of conditional versus global Gαi3-deficient mice revealed that the amplitude of ABR wave IV was disproportionally elevated in comparison to ABR wave I indicating that Gαi3 is selectively involved in generation of neural gain during auditory processing. Conclusion: We propose a so far unrecognized complexity of isoform-specific and overlapping Gαi protein functions particular during final differentiation processes

Bei Unternehmen ist das Thema "ältere Mitarbeiter und Mitarbeiterinnen" wenig präsent, so dass diese auf eine alternde Belegschaft bisher kaum vorbereitet sind. Die Einbindung Älterer, auch älterer Arbeitsloser, in den betrieblichen Alltag eröffnet neue Wege der Personalrekrutierung.
